The port industry uses components made from DYFAST: a nodular cast iron that is extremely abrasion-resistant and can be subjected to high loads. This cast iron replaces materials that could no longer be used because they buckle under impact. For example, a 26 metre-long tube which is used to empty a ship’s hold. A scoop mechanism at the bottom throws the product up into the air stream. This rotating scoop seized in the tube when it was dented by contact with the sides of the hold. Because cast iron does not dent, this version will last considerably longer.
